Theories within the field of paranormal research suggest that these fluctuations may indicate a presence of a paranormal nature. Given that, an energy (EMF) sensor is a popular, easy-to-use tool to detect spikes in electromagnetic energy. Once all sources have been ruled out, changes on this meter may signify activity or communication from the beyond or the unknown. Spikes and fluctuations, on the Rook, are indicated by the dual lighted panel on the top with an audible buzzer to indicate proximity/strength.

Data Logs, Flags, Change alerts... all in one compact device.

Seeing a reading spike during an investigation is helpful. But what if you could see every sampling of all environmental readings on one timeline? Now you can with this new evolution - Rook 2. This new feature takes readings from the sensors and records them to an SD card which can be viewed later in a timeline graph or spreadsheet.

"More input!"
- Johnny Five

Simply put, it's ALWAYS recording. There's not much to it other than flipping it on. Beyond that, Rook 2 goes to work determining what's happening in the environment, marking changes that it considers notable and storing the information for review. You don't even need to press record. If there's a memory card in the device, it knows and gets to work. Why? As investigators, information is important at all times. Sometimes things happen while we're just setting up. So, I ask, "Why not?"

Spike Flags for special review.

While logging, Rook 2 will highlight significant spikes with automatic “Spike Flags”. During your investigation, Rook 2 will review your data live and determine if a change in the environment indicates something you should review and flag it for you. The log will be marked, a light will illuminate and an audio tone will alert you to this trigger. This gives you the opportunity to mark a certain point in the data yourself for special review.

The spreadsheet will be marked to indicate which sensor was triggered:

  • EMF Spikes: "E"
  • Temp Spikes: "T+" for temperature rise and "T-" for lower spikes

Review results on your computer.

The built-in data logger stores all investigation information on a memory card. You can open this data in any spreadsheet or graphing program of your choice to scroll through the readings, graph it for analysis and present to your client or team members. Just pull the SD card out, insert it into your computer via any SD card reader and load the CSV file into the app of your choice. We use a CSV (Comma Separated Values), a standard data format that just about ANY graphing program or spreadsheet application can display such as Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. Once imported you can create graphs and analyze to find patterns and anomalies.

Multi-Use Display

The Rook 2 utilizes a super fast LED screen to show the exact readings from each sensor. It shows both EMF and temperature readings alongside other helpful information at a glance. Beyond that, it will highlight readings when a spike is detected. It will also indicate whether the last readings were higher or lower than the last. You can also monitor battery level and confirm that the SD card is present and recording.

EMF Meter with Sound
The Rook utilizes a highly sensitive Electromagnetic Field Sensor detecting even small changes in the electromagnetic field around the device. The display shows you an exact reading of the EMF strength in addition to a traditional lighted scale. You will also hear when spikes occur with an audible tone indicating EMF spikes. Theories within the ghost hunting field suggest that these spikes may signify activity or communication from spirits on the other side. Given that, the use of sensitive and reliable EMF detection during an investigation is important to document. The speaker can be turned on/off as you desire.

Ambient Thermometer
The Rook 2 contains an ambient temperature sensor with a real-time digital display. In addition to the digital readout there are LED light indicators that light to alert you to spikes or drops in temperature. Blue when the temperature drops and orange/red when it gets warmer. The unit of measurement can be switched to display Fahrenheit or Celsius.

How are the Rook readings different from other EMF meters?

When compared to other energy meters the Rook towers above in many respects. The Rook has been built, specifically, for paranormal investigations from years of experience knowing what we wanted in an easy-to-use, go-to sensor.

Sound and lights.

The Rook includes a sound alert which gets louder and faster as an audible indicator of EMF strength and proximity. You will hear a progressive change in tone as an indicator in addition to the light panel. The tone is made light enough to not interfere with potential EVPs but loud enough for indication as you scan the room.

Fortified from interference.

As you may know, many EMF meters are broadly affected by frequencies such as those produced by radios, walkie-talkies and cell phones. By ruling out these commonly-used frequencies, the Rook is NOT nearly as susceptible to these kinds of false readings, making it a stronghold of quality evidence. It is, however, sensitive to magnetic and electronic frequencies so you can easily track down sources of EMF leaks which can have adverse effects to those exposed. Note: while we have done our best to rule out as much interference as possible, as technology changes there may be some device models using frequencies not covered.

High sensitivity.

The Rook offers a high resolution, highly sensitive reading to alert you to much smaller changes in the environment with a sound alert to indicate proximity. The Rook allows you to see and hear even small fluctuations in energy change. The Rook's dual-light panel indicate energy change. These lights will pulse and get brighter to indicate fractional changes in strength.

Long-lasting rechargeable battery.

The battery on the Rook lasts a long time and will, likely, get you through a few investigations. It's rechargeable via standard USB-C.

*NOTE: Parts of the Rook are 3D printed right here at GhostStop. Each one is made with great care by hand. As such, each one may have unique elements in the texture that could appear to be small defects. These unique elements do not affect the function of the product. Though we do our best to keep them as uniform as possible, each one will be unique in some small way since they are each printed and hand-built for quality. Thanks for your understanding in that.

DIRECTIONS

To turn the Rook EMF Meter on, simply slide the front switch right. You will see the logo in the middle light up red to indicate it is powered up. While detecting EMF, the 8 bars at the top will light up from the middle outward. The inside lights indicate a low EMF signature while more bars indicate a higher spike. Because the Rook is highly sensitive to small changes in energy, the lights may flicker indicating minor changes in EMF - something many other EMF meters are not capable of.

The display will take a few seconds to boot up then being displaying EMF and temperature readings.

As you detect higher energy a light audible alert will be heard when detecting higher readings in an ascending tone. You can turn on/off the speaker using the switch at the bottom.

Natural and Directional EMF

The Rook EMF Meter is a single-axis energy sensor that detects EMF in a single direction. This helps to determine which direction the EMF is flowing. This means that you will get different readings depending on what direction and angle you are pointing the device. It is sensitive to the axis (or angle) the device is held. So, if you are using it while walking around, that movement will cause changes in the reading. It's best to use the Rook sitting stationary, like on a table.

To test the EMF, bring the Rook Meter toward a desk fan or fluorescent light. These will generally show a high EMF.

NOTE: Measurements and readings from the Rook (or any EMF meter, for that matter) should not be compared to the numbers on another meter. Every EMF meter measures different ranges of frequencies. Because of that 'MG' is not an exact correlation from one meter to another. In short, do not expect the readings on the Rook, Mel meter or K2 to all be the same.

Temperature

Temperature is displayed in Fahrenheit on the display. In addition, a light in the middle of the red EMF var will illuminate Red or Blue to indicate a spike or big shift colder or hotter. Blue for colder, red for hotter in 2 degree increments from the last.

Data Log, Spreadsheets and Charting

A CSV file is stored, during live readings, to an inserted Micro-SD card. If inserted, Rook 2 knows to automatically start writing this data to the card. While recording the display will show a blinking recording icon to indicate it is writing data to the card. Otherwise it will show "No SD card."

Data Recording STEPS:
  1. Insert SD card into the side slot
  2. Turn on Rook 2
  3. If the card is ever removed while Rook is on, you must turn Rook off and back on to recognize the card again.
We use a standard CSV format so that you can use any spreadsheet or graphing program you are familiar with.
