SPIKE EVP Sound Sensor

See EVP and audio spikes as they happen.

Deploy this palm-sized, compact sensor to visualize when audio spikes happen. This sound pod utilizes a sensitive on-board microphone to detect audio spikes and translates it to a lighted display. The lighted graph is colored in a range from green to red indicating loudness along a lighted display ring. It then marks these spikes with an indicator for documenting. It's simple to use, easy to see and lasts a long time.

Displaying sound in colored light

The top side of this investigation tool features a lighted ring of colored light. As sound occurs, the display will light up the ring from one side to the other in a range of colors to indicate loudness. A quiet sound such as a whisper may only light up minimally in green. Louder audio, such as someone yelling or clapping may light up the entire ring in a rainbow of colors from green to orange and red. Green indicates lower sounds while red indicates something considerably louder.

Just call me 'Spike'.

Sensitivity control

You can adjust the sensitivity of the microphone to suit your needs. Whether you are in an environment with loud ambient sound already or a steady quiet room, this unit can handle it. On the bottom of the device is a control knob. Just turn it up or down to set it where you're picking up small sounds and you'll be ready to investigate.

Spike indicator for documenting

There's more to this device then just lighting up to indicate loudness. It will also mark when a spike happens and hold it for a bit in case you did not catch it in real time. How do we do this? When a spike of audio is detected, the sound sensor will mark the highest point of the scale and keep that LED light on the ring. It will then hold this light for about 30 seconds so you have a chance to see it and log it. This is helpful in the event you were elsewhere in the room and saw it trigger but didn't quite catch what the high point was. By marking this spike point on the display you have a chance to come over and note the position/color for documentation as potential evidence.

A helpful counterpart to any EVP recorder or camera

In short, if the sensor lights up and you didn't hear anything, this may be an indicator of an EVP coming through. On that note, we highly suggest using this in conjuction with an EVP recorder. This audio meter will be super helpful in alerting you to potential captured EVPs.

Better yet, set this meter in front of a video camera with audio. Not only can you potentially capture EVPs coming through the camera itself, but recording video will allow you to see the levels as they happen for cross corellation of evidence.

Compact, lightweight and functional design

At just 2 inches in diameter, you can pop this in your pocket. The enclosure, featuring a rugged ribbing for a firm grip, is built with lightweight material for ease of transport. The design is built with function in mind to ensure high visibility and sensivity to audio detection.

How does this help with EVP work?

The theory behind EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) work is that an entity may have the ability to manipulate the input of an audio recorder - the microphone. That being said, many researchers have found that sometimes a voice may come through the recorder that was not heard in real time. In an effort to investigate that theory, this device was built utilizing the same hardware then translates that to a visual display. It will trigger from both audible sound and, potential, EVP triggers.

In short, utilizing a separate recording device like an EVP recorder or video camera will help differentiate whether the recorded audio was audible to all devices in range or an actual EVP. Working in parallel, this fundamental technique of narrowing down sources of evidence will help determine if the 'spike' was device-specific EVP or an audible sound.

Quick Start Directions

product demo illustration

Turn the device on using the turning knob located on the bottom of the device. Turn the knob clockwise to click it on. When powered up, the lights will run a quick test and you'll hear a short tone sequence while booting up (just a few seconds).

Set the Sound Spike Sensor in an area you wish to capture sound changes. Adjust the sensivity using the same power knob on the bottom. Leftmost (down position right after it clicks on) is the lowest sensivity. Turn clockwise until it reaches the far right for the highest sensivity.

product demo illustration

We suggest starting the sensivity low to start with. Set it down, say a few words from about 2 feet away and see how the display reacts. Adjust it up until you reach a point where the display is dark when the ambient sound in the room is quiet but the sensor lights up with a normal talking voice. Adjust it a few times to get it where you want it then you're good to go.

For best results, make sure the display is infront of a running video camera that can see the display and/or place an EVP recorder next to the Sound Sensor to record any potential evidence.

Spike Marker

The Sound Spike Sensor focuses on a feature helpful in noting audio spikes. When a sound occurs, this device will note the loudest point on the ring that the sound reached and hold that position and color for about 30 seconds. This is helpful in the event you were not directly looking at the device at the exact time of the occurance. This gives you 30 seconds to come to the unit, check the marker position and color and log this as evidence.

Directions for Charging

  • Using the USB cable provided, plug it into any standard USB power source. For plugging into a standard wall AC outlet you will need a common AC/USB adapter (not included).
    • Red light on the bottom = Charging
    • Blue light on the bottom = Fully Charged
  • A fully-charged battery will last just over 7 hours under normal conditions.
    • NOTE: Power consuption is highly dependant on how often the sensor and lights are triggered. If it is triggering constantly, the battery life is closer to 4 hours. With that, we recommend making sure to set the sensitivity to a good point where it's only going off for actual audio spikes and constant ambient sound (like fans and cars outside) will not set off the device. With this, you'll get 7+ hours of continuous use.
  • Charging takes about 1 hour.
  • For UNLIMITED USE, this device can be used while it's charging via wall outlet or USB battery pack. A USB battery pack is handy so you can use the device and continue charging all while being completely mobile.

    A Must for Investigators

Posted by Steven LaCrosse on Mar 21st 2022

I was surprised how small this device is, but is a fantastic addition to my equipment. After adjusting the sensitivity I was able to see a response to a question, so I know where to look on my recordings. Highly recommend.

    EVP Spike Sensor

Posted by Jeremy Wilson on Feb 21st 2022

My Ghoststop EVP Spike Sensor arrived a few days ago and I immediately started testing it. It is smaller than I thought it would be and thats a good thing. It doesn't take long to charge and lasts a very long time. The ability to adjust the sensitivity is great and it functions great, even with the very slightest sounds. I definately recommend adding this to your ghost hunting arsenal!
