Dead Time: The Vintage Metronome for Ghost Communication
"Keep watch, for time ticks softly for us all - even in the beyond."
Dead Time combines old-world charm with modern ghost-hunting technology, creating an interactive trigger object EMF detector designed for paranormal investigations. Dead Time, like our popular vintage Dead Bell and Spirit Candle, are a revival of traditional methods for paranormal communication with the added benefit of discrete technology that GhostStop is well known for.
Set the metronome in motion and watch as its pendulum swings from side to side, "tick, tock." Inside its vintage-inspired design is technology capable of detecting changes in the electromagnetic environment around it.

When an EMF spike is detected, the metronome stops with flashing warm light to help indicate a response. Just ask a question, watch the pendulum and wait for it to suddenly stop in time. Then after a short pause, the metronome begins ticking once again, ready for another interaction.

Traditional ghost hunting methods meets new technology.
This isn't your ordinary ghost hunting gadget. This is tool utilizing vintage paranormal investigation method - a fusion of traditional theory with a spark of new and helpful technology.
The Metronome That Stops with EMF Energy or Touch
The device combines the unmistakable appearance of a traditional metronome with modern paranormal investigation technology, creating something that looks right at home in an old hotel, theater, music room, school, church, or historic residence.
While it looks and operates like a traditional mechanical metronome, this device’s movement can be interrupted by the detection of EMF fluctuations, creating a clear response during an investigation.
The built-in EMF sensor detects natural magnetic field changes and is specifically chosen to help reduce interference from many common man-made sources such as phones and walkie-talkies. When an EMF fluctuation exceeds the selected sensitivity threshold, the metronome's pendulum is physically stopped. After a brief period, it is released and begins moving again.
Why use a Vintage Metronome as a Paranormal Trigger Object?
In paranormal investigation, trigger objects are often used in an attempt to encourage interaction by presenting something familiar, recognizable, or meaningful to the people who once occupied a location. For generations, metronomes have been found beside pianos and musical instruments in homes, schools, theaters, churches, and rehearsal rooms. Their distinctive rhythmic ticking also plays into the concepts of 'white noise' for energy and focus.
How Dead Time works
Place the metronome in an investigation area, start the pendulum, and invite anything present to interact with it. You might ask:
- "Can you stop the metronome?"
- "Can you make it stop when I say your name?"
- "Stop it on the left for yes and right for no."
- "Can you make it go faster?"
The constantly moving pendulum provides investigators with a clear visual and audible reference. Rather than waiting for a light or electronic sound, investigators can watch for the rhythmic motion to suddenly come to a halt. Once triggered, the metronome remains stopped briefly before automatically releasing and returning to its steady rhythm.
Made with A Real Metronome!
A metronome is a device that produces a steady, repeated sound or pulse (such as a mechanical click or digital beep) at regular time intervals to help musicians keep a consistent tempo.
And Dead Time is exactly that, with a GhostStop twist. The device uses the physical movement of a real metronome, giving familiarity to anyone that has ever used one in person. You can even use it without ANY power at all. Yes, we built electronics into it to detect energy and stop the pendulum. However, you can just turn off the power for use as a normal, traditional tool, as people may have many years ago.
Full traditional, mechanical function and adjustments
Like a traditional metronome, you can adjust the temp, speed and audible bell interval using mechanical knobs and slider which can be used without any electronic power whatsoever!
- Slide pendulum weight to adjust speed
- Pull in/out to adjust bell temp
- Physical wind-up for bell power
How It Works for Paranormal Investigations
Turn the dial to calibrate the device’s sensors and set a baseline for the environment. Start the metronome and allow its pendulum to establish a steady rhythm. While it swings, the internal sensor continuously monitors the surrounding electromagnetic field for changes. When an EMF spike exceeds the selected sensitivity level, the device activates its mechanism and physically stops the metronome's pendulum. Lights inside the metronome will flash a warm light, giving an eerie glow to the device when it has been triggered by an EMF spike.
After a moment, the mechanism releases the metronome and allows it to begin moving again, resetting the device. This makes changes easy to notice both visually and audibly. Investigators can both see and hear the pendulum stop.
Sensitivity Control
Every investigation environment is different, so the metronome includes adjustable EMF sensitivity. A control knob located on the device allows you to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the sensor depending on your surroundings. Adjust the control until the device is appropriately responsive to the environment, set the metronome in motion, and begin your investigation.

Quick Start Directions
Turn the device on using the turning knob located on the front of the device. Turn the knob clockwise to click it on.
Set the Dead Time in an area you wish to capture changes. Adjust the sensivity using the same power knob on the front. Leftmost (down position right after it clicks on) is the lowest sensivity. Turn clockwise until it reaches the far right for the highest sensivity.
We suggest starting the sensivity low to start with. Set it down, and see how it reacts. Adjust it up until you reach a point where it is generally quiet in ambient environment. Adjust it a few times to get it where you want it then you're good to go. Keep notice of electronic devices around like fans, air conditioners and appliances that may set it off. They're not a problem, you just might have to adjust to a higher baseline.
You can also test sensitivity by moving a magnet near it or moving the bell near a motor (like a fan).
For best results, make sure the Dead Time is infront of a running video camera that can document any interactions.
Directions for Charging
- Using the USB cable provided, plug it into any standard USB power source. For plugging into a standard wall AC outlet you will need a common AC/USB adapter (not included).
- Red light near the USB port = Charging
- Blue light near the USB port = Fully Charged
- A fully-charged battery will last just over 7 hours under normal conditions.
- NOTE: Power consuption is highly dependant on how often the sensor is triggered. If it is triggering constantly, the battery life is closer to 4 hours. With that, we recommend making sure to set the sensitivity to a good point where it's only going off for actual spikes. You can use a magnet next to the bell to test. With this, you'll get 7+ hours of continuous use.
- Charging takes about 1 hour.
- For UNLIMITED USE, this device can be used while it's charging via wall outlet or USB battery pack. A USB battery pack is handy so you can use the device and continue charging all while being completely mobile.
