Footstep Tracker 2

Geophone Vibration Meter with Event Marker

Have you ever received reports of footsteps, vibration or movement on a case? This incredibly sensitive vibration detection device is a geophone that 'listens' to vibrations and sends the readout to lighted displays. Place it anywhere and watch for changes on the lightbar to see if there is someone or something moving. With greater motion, more lights illuminate on the LED bar for quick and easy identification of strength. Additionally, this unit also marks and logs the number of events detected and how strong they were.

  • Footstep Tracker Geophone Demo IllustrationHigh sensitivity geophone sensor detects even small vibrations
  • Light bar display for live readings and event markers
  • Digital display of event total
  • Sensitivity control adjustment knob
  • Audible alert
  • Rechargeable, long-life battery

Footstep Tracker 2 is designed especially for paranormal investigations as a supremely helpful tool on cases with claims of footsteps, bangs and moving objects. Utilizing a highly sensitive seismic geophone sensor, it is sensitive enough to detect the slightest movement - even from afar. With the adjustable sensitivity you can decide how much movement it will take to light the guage. Its compact design allows you to place the sensor on any surface while the lights can be seen all around the device in 360 degrees. Though this is not your typical geophone it does utilize the same sophisticated components used in scientific research to detect seismic response to measure earthquakes and various ground activity. Watch for patterns that may indicate man-made, mechanical possibilities.

See Vibrations on the Light Bar

Now you can 'see' motion as it happens. The Footstep Tracker 2 utilizes a unique color light bar that serves multiple purposes providing a visual indicator of activity. In its normal state, a red light will pulse letting you know it is scanning for vibration readings. As soon as a spike occurs, the bar will light up white with a scale indicating strength of the fluctuation. White light will illuminate like a bar graph from the bottom to the top indicating the amount of live activity.

Marking Events

When vibration occurs, the device will mark the top end of that reading and keep that information as an 'event'. To indicate the strength of that event a colored light will remain lit on the bar as a visual representation of how strong the spike was. This marker will be a color range from green (on the low end) to yellow, orange and red for the strongest reading (on the top end of the bar). This marker stays lit so you don't have to stare at the meter all night. Once you hear the alert, take a look over at the unit and you'll see how strong it was as represented by this lighted marker.

Event Log and Display

As events occur, the FT2 keeps track of them. A text display shows a total number of events for the duration of the session. Each time an event is recognized this number will go up one. To ensure proper event tracking this device will mark noteable events in a rather smart way. If someone is walking by, each step causes multiple occurances of vibration with each step. The Footstep Tracker will categorize the multiple steps together as a single noteable event. This way you're not clogging up your event log with every little motion.

*NOTE: Parts of this product are 3D printed right here at GhostStop. Each one is made with great care by hand. As such, each one may have unique elements in the texture that could appear to be small defects. These unique elements do not affect the function of the product. Though we do our best to keep them as uniform as possible, each one will be unique in some small way since they are each printed and hand-built for quality. Thanks for your understanding in that.

Quick Start Guide

Turn the device on using the turning knob located on the front of the device. Turn the knob clockwise to click it on. When powered up, the lights will run a quick test and you'll hear a short tone sequence while booting up (just a few seconds).

Set the Footstep Tracker 2 in an area you wish to capture vibration spikes. Adjust the sensivity using the same power knob on the front. Leftmost (down position right after it clicks on) is the lowest sensivity. Turn clockwise until it reaches the far right for the highest sensivity.

Display & Lights

In a normal state, while the FT2 is scanning, a red light at the bottom of the light bar will pulse. This means no vibration is currently detected. When vibration is detected, the light bar at the top will show a few different things.

Live readings are represented on the bar graph in white as it happens. The white is helpful in catching your attention in a dark room.

Above that will be a color EVENT MARKER representing the highest point of the last spike. This marker will stay for about 10 seconds to give you time to note it. This is helpful in case you were not staring at the meter at the time of the occurance. The color and placement of this marker will vary depending on that strength of that spike. If it's a low spike it'll be toward the bottom of the bar in green. A higher spike will be further up the bar in a range of colors from green to yellow, orange and red (for the highest reading).

Event Alerts & Logging

When an event occurs, the Footstep Tracker 2 will decide if this constitutes an event depending on your sensitivity setting. It also knows to capture a grouping of vibration readings as one event. This is helpful in a case where someone is walking by taking multiple steps. FT2 is smart enough to only read the multiple steps as one event for logging. This way you're not clogging up your log with event markers for each footstep. Though you will still see the live reading light up, the marker remains at the highest point then will reset after the window.

When an event is triggered, an short audio alert will sound. This let's you know an event took place giving you a chance to look over and check the display. This sound is intentionally just loud enough for you to hear it. But we do not want it so loud as to step on any potential EVP/audio work you may be conducting at the same time.

The text display on the front of the unit calculates each event to display a total. Every time a new event is detected, the number will go up one. This is super helpful in detecting events when you are not present. Naturally, if you place this device in a room and leave it empty with 0 events then come back some time later and it says '5 EVENTS' - obviously some movement occured somehow. This is something to note.

This Event counter will reset when powered off. To reset the counter, you must turn the device off and back on again. As such, ensure the device is fully charged or plugged into power because if you lose your charge, this event counter will be lost.

Directions for Charging

  • Using the USB cable provided, plug it into any standard USB power source. For plugging into a standard wall AC outlet you will need a common AC/USB adapter (not included).
    • Red light on the bottom = Charging
    • Blue light on the bottom = Fully Charged
  • A fully-charged battery will last around 12 hours under normal conditions.
    • NOTE: Power consuption is highly dependant on how often the sensor and lights are triggered. If it is triggering constantly, the battery life will be less. With that, we recommend making sure to set the sensitivity to a good point where it's only going off for actual vibration spikes and constant ambient vibration (like nearby appliances or cars outside) will not set off the device.
  • Charging takes about 1 hour.
  • For UNLIMITED USE, this device can be used while it's charging via wall outlet or USB battery pack. A USB battery pack is handy so you can use the device and continue charging all while being completely mobile.

I just am so impressed with the Footstep Tracker Geophone. You can put it wherever and it will show you if anything is moving towards it or not I like the way that it works and the sensitivity and it’s also great that you can see how much interaction there is as there is a small display that will show you the numbers in how much It did pick up a footstep or something that did walk towards it. This is very sensitive, so see too that you put it somewhere where it will not pick up your footsteps.

    Nice tool

I've used it numerous times in my séance room during the day and night. I can hear spirit footsteps with my ears everywhere, but it's good to have for experiments.
