On December 13, GhostStop, a leading retailer specializing in ghost hunting equipment, was named a winner in the BigCommerce 2021 Make it Big Awards, which celebrates the achievements of small businesses on the e-commerce platform.
GhostStop took home the top honor in the People’s Choice category, beating out nine other candidates in a public voting event that took place between October 20-24 of this year.
The prominent award highlights ecommerce retailers that demonstrate exceptional innovation and achievement. Participants are evaluated by a panel of respected business leaders looking for strides in innovation, brand strength, creative use of technology, and support of their community. In the People's Choice category, judges nominate a few deserving organizations, then leave the final decision to a public vote.
"GhostStop pivoted its business model to support communities impacted by COVID, creating and donating face shields and masks for first responders," BigCommerce highlighted in its press release on Monday.
On a blog post announcing the achievement, owner of GhostStop, Shawn Porter, stated “Each day I feel appreciation for the work my crew continues to achieve and their willingness to evolve - never standing on status quo as the solution and always looking ahead to that next step beyond.”
In addition to receiving a cash prize and access to various BigCommerce mentorship initiatives, GhostStop was prominently featured in an announcement displayed on a Times Square billboard.
Fans and regular customers of the small e-commerce business were surprised to learn that this award holds a special meaning for Mr. Porter. “As a billboard designer early in my career, a common goal is to one day have a board in Time Square. I am proud to say this has come to fruition in a wonderfully meaningful way for me, my business, and our industry,” Mr. Porter is quoted as saying on the GhostStop blog.

Shawn Porter opened GhostStop in 2006 to serve as a centralized source for his team members to find quality ghost hunting equipment. The website was eventually expanded to be a resource for paranormal investigators worldwide.
GhostStop has since evolved into a workshop and lab where we design, develop, and produce reliable equipment to search for the supernatural. We know the gear, we purposefully keep our operations small, and we remain ever focused, so that we can stand by our customers, the paranormal investigation field, and our community.
